In this article I am going to show you the bad side of modern technology. There are far too many positives for this article to be about only negatives of using technology. Many people do not realize the potential of what computers and technology have created. They only realize the potential when something goes wrong, as in the computer crashing or a flood causes data loss. In truth, we live in an almost perfect state for technology, it is just hiding behind the curtain of privacy settings in most cases.
I would like to take a moment and point out the obvious dangers of technology. I say this because many parents of children that have broadband internet connection are not keeping an eye on their kids. It is amazing how much time and money the average parent loses because they are not keeping an eye on what their kids are doing online.
The Internet has made the world a much smaller place. Back several years ago anyone could send a fax from anywhere in the world, now everyone does. If you want to send an email, you can do so from anywhere with an internet connection. The amount of information that can be passed back and forth is amazing. However, along with the great things about this technology are some of the bad sides as well.
Computers and email are the number one ways that many people try to get information off of the World Wide Web. This can lead to some truly terrible situations, like identity theft, drug use and even child pornography. Children can get into trouble by using their real name on the web, which can result in them getting into trouble themselves.
Also, when your credit card information gets into the wrong hands, things can turn from bad to worse very quickly. Some websites actually sell the credit card information that is sent through them to different companies. Not only is your financial information being sold but your name and address too.
Many businesses use the internet as a tool for marketing. Unfortunately, they have no respect for your privacy. This has led to sites such as eBay and Amazon being used to swindle people. The buyer’s name is never mentioned on the site, and no security measures have been put in place to make sure that it cannot be used by thieves. These sites have gained a bad reputation because of this.
There have also been cases where a home was broken into because someone got hold of their computer while it was in the house. This could be due to the fact that many homes now come with a wireless router. Because the wireless router gave the criminal access to the home’s internet, many times they were able to continue what they were doing once inside. The home had no idea that it was being compromised.
The other modern technology that seems to be the biggest problem is the way that people use their cell phones. Cell phones have become the number one item purchased over the internet. Most of the purchases are done while the phone is in the hand and the user is unaware. When the phone gets lost or stolen, all kinds of personal information is sent to the thief.
Theft of information from a computer has also been an issue. Many times a thief will have personal information on their computer, such as account numbers and passwords. Once the information has been stolen, it can be used to make purchases online. The issue of having everything on the computer including important documents has also been a major cause for concern. People do not realize that there is only a small amount of information that needs to be backed up on the computer before the information can be completely erased.
Another major issue is viruses. When a virus is installed on a computer system, it can often be very difficult to fix. When the computer is infected with a virus and no antivirus is found, it is often very difficult to get things back up and running again without paying a large amount of money to a professional.
These are just a few of the dangers of modern technology. We are always seeing new and improved products that will help us to achieve more, but they also have the tendency to cause many of the current issues we face today. When we examine the benefits of using the internet, it is easy to see why people are so eager to use the internet.
