Why Students Should Be Required to Take Physical Education Class
The thought of students being required to take physical education course might seem absurd. However, such a class is required for school districts in order to keep their students healthy and well-informed. There are many different kinds of physical activity that can promote overall physical fitness. Some examples include sports, outdoor activities, dancing, gardening and work at a gym.
Students should be encouraged to participate in these different activities. After all, they have free will to do as they wish. They could decide to exercise on their own, take a class or go to the gym. If they choose to participate in a physical class at school, students should know what they are signing up for beforehand. A simple invitation to a gym class or an interview with a school coach may be more appropriate than something like a request to go swimming or a hike on their own. If a student is not interested in any kind of activity, then they need to let their parents know.
When students participate in a physical education course, they should be informed about the activities. This information should be included in their athletic pages for their school’s newsletter. If a student wants to play a sport, they should be made aware of the sport they plan on playing. Students should be encouraged to learn about the skills required to succeed at the sport they are considering playing. If a student is interested in learning about dancing, for instance, they should be encouraged to attend a dance class as a form of physical activity.
Children are becoming less healthy through technology. This can even have an effect on how active children are. Many of the games and activities that kids once found enjoyable now are considered time-wasters. In order to keep children physically active, school districts are required by law to include a physical education course in all elementary schools.
The benefits of a physical education course cannot be overstated. It provides a healthy lifestyle for students. These classes also keep them out of trouble. A parent who knows their child needs to be physically fit may be more inclined to enroll them in a class rather than sending them to daycare or signing them up for after school sports. If a student cannot take a class because of being ill, then their parents should be made aware of the class.
While students are not required to take a physical education course, they should learn about it. Some people assume that they do not need to know about this if they do not want to, but there are some physical activities that benefit everyone. Sitting in a chair for an extended period of time, for instance, requires the use of the muscles of the back, hips, legs, and shoulders. Sitting in a car or truck and getting stuck can cause major pain to students who do not know how to properly take care of themselves.
Another reason that students should be required to take a physical education class is because of the safety of their health. When a class is required, students know they will be taking a course that promotes healthy lifestyles. It is impossible to make every child in a class to take a physical education course, but taking one does not have to mean participation in a sport or being held up by the school nurse. All it means is that they are taking a course that promotes a healthy lifestyle outside of the classroom. Sitting down with a pencil and paper to write on a piece of paper and completing a puzzle or painting a picture can help children to exercise their muscles and their minds.
Finally, taking a physical education class may help students get into sports. After all, many people believe that these are only for those individuals who are overweight or out of shape. These classes will teach students how to move properly in order to not get injured while playing a sport. Many times physical education teachers will place a star beside a player’s name in order to teach them how to move correctly, and how often they should go to the doctor for treatment. If students see this happening, they may begin to take pride in their health and begin to set goals for themselves outside of the classroom as well.
