Freshmen Should Not Be Required To Buy A Meal Plan From The School
Freshmen shouldn’t be required to buy a meal plan from the school they are attending. This is not a problem with most schools. But there are a few that require this when they are in their first year of college. While this isn’t a bad thing per se, a healthy eating regimen for Freshmen may be better for them in the long run.
Before a Freshman buys any meal, there are a few questions they should ask. They need to know how much their food is going to cost them each day. They also need to understand the portion sizes. These factors will help them make a decision on the type of food that is going to meet their needs for the day. They can get this information at the dining room tables or at one of the cafeteria windows.
Freshmen should be encouraged to eat more vegetables. There are too many unhealthy foods in the cafeteria today that should not be eaten by Freshmen. One of these is potato chips. Though they may taste good, they are filled with sugar and fat. If a Freshman doesn’t eat them, then they might find them hard to continue eating them later in the day.
Freshmen should also be eating more fruits. Fruits are high in Vitamin C and they should not be overlooked in a Freshmen’s diet. A Freshman might want to consider getting more fruits in their diet to help combat what they might perceive as a lack of eating opportunities. They might not think that it is a big deal, but it’s a lot healthier for them.
They might be missing out on things that they think they would need to eat. At college, there are so many different types of foods that they are spoiled for choice. They might think they don’t have to buy a lunch for the day. However, they could easily forget about their nutrition needs. It’s easy to get distracted by all of the new stuff going on around you. Freshmen should learn to take one bite at a time, to chew carefully, and to choose the right food for them at the right time.
They might not have enough money to purchase a college lunch plan. Most schools will require their Freshmen to buy a meal plan from the school. It might be the college cafeteria or it might be the student cafeteria. They might also be required to buy lunch from a vending machine. Freshmen should understand that they might be short on funds, but that they don’t have to miss out on the things that they like to eat.
Freshmen can buy from a list provided by the school, or they can come up with their own list. They can choose to eat their foods that are listed or mix and match some of the things that they already like to eat. The only rule that they should follow is that they should count every food item that they eat as one of their meal choices. Freshmen need to eat a varied amount of meals throughout the day, so they might need to buy several of the eatables that are on their own list.
They might find that they don’t have any type of vending machine in the building where they live, so they might have to come up with their own way to buy their own meals. They should try to eat at least three meals each day, because this will help them stay healthy. If they can’t eat at least three meals a day, then they might be limited in what they can eat and might even have to buy more expensive meal options, like eatables that are high in protein.
