Make Your Favorite Athlete’s Image Memorable With a Calendar
One of the most common questions I get from readers is what is the best sports writer for their favorite athlete? I get emails similar to this all the time: “Who do you think is the best writer for your favorite athlete?” Here are some answers to that question and a few suggestions. This is by no means an exhaustive list of the top writers for every sport. But it will give you a place to start.
If you are a fan of yours, you probably want to keep up with his/her success. So look for a writer who covers your favorite athlete in some way. For instance, if you follow college basketball you might be interested in a sport writing that covers a team for which there are several teams competing. A daily column about one team might do just fine.
If you are just a casual fan, you might not want to follow your favorite athlete at all. That’s fine too. Look for another writer who covers your favorite less well known sport. A weekly magazine devoted to high school football could do just fine. There are even websites that focus on high school sports for college students, which are also nice. But don’t limit yourself.
Sports magazines are different. Some are glossy. The articles are exciting and witty and full of quotes. Others are not quite so entertaining but still try to be informative and educational. There are even some magazines that try to be both. You can find one dedicated to your favorite college or professional sports team.
You can also find some excellent information online. For instance, I love to follow the progress of my favorite athletes’ workouts. I love to read about the latest success stories. I particularly enjoy reading about injuries sustained by favorite athletes. These blogs and articles give me new insights into what is happening in the lives of my favorite athletes.
One more thing: consider buying a few issues of your favorite women’s magazine. I’ve noticed that many women put the women’s edition together. That way they have something to read when they are waiting for their favorite athlete to make an appearance.
Of course, you should always keep up with your favorite athlete. Follow his/her career moves, pay attention to his/her games, and be sure to purchase your copy of Sports Illustrated. After all, your favorite athlete should be your favorite person. And Sports Illustrated will always be a great choice!
But if you really want to go all out, try getting an autographed sports memorabilia from your favorite athlete. That way you can proudly display it wherever you choose. And when people ask you where you got that fantastic piece of memorabilia, you can proudly proclaim: It’s from your favorite athlete. And that is a very special feeling indeed!
Another idea is to create a Sports illustrated calendar. You can pick one month and devote the rest of the year to showing off your favorite athletes. For instance: If you love Maradona, November is the perfect month to celebrate the great striker for his run to the World Cup title. You can then create a dedicated page in your calendar for that month only and include a picture (or two) of your favorite game, along with a short note about why you picked that particular game.
Also, if you’re a die-hard fan, how about creating a Sports illustrated Christmas card? Start with your favorite athlete or his/her favorite team and list all the things you want for Christmas. You could have a postscript or insert a picture of your favorite player (it is customary to put a photograph in these cards.) And you could even write a few words about why you want the card.
For example: My favorite team is the New York Giants and I’m excited about their win over the undefeated Denver Broncos last weekend. I am also excited about my favorite player, Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham. I have mentioned him in my blog before but I want to mention him again. He caught nine passes for over 50 yards and he deserves a lot of credit for his performance against the Broncos.
These are just a few examples of what you can do with your calendar to remember your favorite players or favorite teams. What’s most important is that you have something to look forward to in the coming months. Make it meaningful by making a personal keepsake that will remind you of how much you love your favorite people or things. That will make them even more beloved to you!
