Examples of Thesis Statements

Several people want to learn how to write a good thesis statement. The thesis is the main topic of an assignment. Students spend several years learning about a topic and reading numerous texts and essays in the hope that they will reach some kind of conclusion about the matter. The purpose of the thesis statement is to lay out a solid basis for supporting evidence in support of the main claim, usually a research or academic paper. Many students fail to reach this point because they use weak examples of thesis statements and fail to develop a strong argument. In this article we will discuss some of the issues involved with developing a good thesis statement.

In most cases the second paragraph of an essay is the place where most students skim over and ignore the bulk of the text. It’s not uncommon for students to read the first few sentences of an essay and then stop reading the rest of the paragraph without finishing it. The general rule is to include a thesis statement in your second paragraph, but make sure that you develop it in a way that makes sense. Let’s look at two examples of thesis statements.

Examples of Thesis Statements

“Acist views should not be advocated in public schools” is a very simple example of a thesis statement. The author has simply asserted (in a logically valid argument) that any advocacy of racist views should not be encouraged in public schools. The writer has explained her reasoning in a way that anybody following the argument could follow. This is a strong point that has definite proof in its support.

A second example of thesis statements is as follows: “ariums are the fossilized remains of dead trees and animals that lived millions of years ago”. Here again we see that the writer has spelled out the crux of the argument in a very clear and logical manner. There is no ambiguity here. Anyone reading this essay can easily grasp the meaning of what is being said.

When people read this essay, they are left with the knowledge that the writer has spelled out her opinion on the subject in a very clear and logical fashion. There are many other good thesis statements that can help a reader to get a good idea of the question or issue that someone is addressing. These statements include: “ariums show evidence of life before Earth was created”,” continental drift demonstrates that the Earth was in existence before the sun was born”, and “evolution shows that species exist in a vast ocean”, just to list a few. As you can see, these examples help the reader to understand the topic quite well.

One final example is the statement “theory X shows that theory Y is true”. In this example, the writer has introduced the concept of a thesis question in an essay. A thesis question is a question that is presented by an author in an essay. The purpose of this question is to introduce a concept to the reader so that they can form their own opinions about the topic. This can be extremely useful when it comes to explaining complicated ideas.

Two specific examples of thesis statements are: “I really enjoyed going to the zoo as a child” and “seventh grade classmates really enjoyed science classes”. Both statements have particular characteristics that allow them to qualify as good thesis statements. First, the writer has introduced the concept of a thesis question and she has mentioned specific examples that prove her point. Second, both statements are written in the active voice, which is an imperative mode of writing.

There are two versions of each of these two statements. The first version consists of a short sentence that introduces the concept while the second version has the sentence from the introduction inserted between the two versions. Each version has the necessary information to complete a full understanding of the topic. When a thesis statement is written in the active voice, it is easy for readers to understand the main idea behind the essay.
